7 Months Since An Update??

WOW! Has it really been 7 months since I’ve made a post on here? Looks like it has. I want to say first, sorry for the lack of updates. With this pandemic going, you’d think I’d have more time on my hands. I have anything BUT time. To be honest, I’ve been busy with making wedding plans, getting things squared away with that, working on ideas for the new studio (more on that later), all while still working full-time from home.

I mean, I have enjoyed working from home, don’t get me wrong. But, I will be SO GLAD when this pandemic is over and we can get back to some sense of normalcy. Even though we won’t have that for a long time. We will probably be feeling the effects of the pandemic for a while.

The Summer of Rockin’ was a success as usual and this year, we did something different. We didn’t have SOR20. We continued SOR19! That’s right. Since this year was really a crap year, we didn’t want to give the year anymore recognition (that and I was too lazy to make new graphics) so we reused the SOR graphics from last year and just continued SOR19 where we left off last year. The listeners and viewers seemed to enjoy that.

Our Facebook page has really been getting a lot of action there especially in the way of me doing live streams often when I would be going on walks during the day (which I plan to resume doing by the way), and I would just talk to yall and answer any questions and fill yall in with programming notes and what not.

Speaking of programming, WOW we have some NEW PROGRAMMING to tell you about!

First off, on Saturdays, we have switched around some programming and added a new show to the lineup! We first moved Retro 80s Weekend an hour earlier so we are now airing it from 12 PM to 2:30 PM. Then, at 3 PM, we are airing a new show to Rockin WAVES! This show comes from Pat Gwinn who brings you 2 hours of beach music each week! It’s called Pat Gwinn At The Beach! Be sure to check him out every Saturday at 3 PM!

Secondly, on Wednesdays, we are really excited about this show coming to Rockin WAVES! As you may or may not know, I was in college radio back in the day. To this day, I still keep up with the college radio station, and there was a show that I started listening to called Hippie Happenings. And, I got hooked. I enjoyed the music, the stories that were told, and the host is just all around awesome. Unfortunately, when COVID-19 hit, she had to end her show on the college radio station early, she was a little depressed about not being able to give her show a proper sendoff. Well, I messaged her one night, and asked if she would be interested in bringing her show to Rockin WAVES and not only do a final show, but KEEP DOING HER SHOW! She messaged me the next day and she gave me an enthusiastic YES! So, that began a month of helping her get things ready and in late May, she made her debut on Rockin WAVES. I am so proud of what she has done and I’m sure she is going to soar to new heights. By the way, did I mention her name is Natalie? Yep. It’s Hippie Happenings with Natalie Rae and you can catch her show on Wednesdays at 5 PM.

Finally, we are about to kick off the Holiday of Rockin’ 2020 which means we will be going from the Decades section of Shoutcast to the Holiday section. So be on the lookout, if you try to connect to the audio only (via winamp, windows media player, vlc, realplayer, etc.) and you can’t it’s probably because the Shoutcast ID changed and I need to change a few things on the website. If that happens, just simply message me on Facebook and let me know!

Well, that about does it for the update. In case I don’t talk to yall again before Christmas, may you have a wonderful holiday season, and don’t worry, we have some exciting Holiday programming coming so, most likely, I’ll be talking to yall again soon. Keep checking back for updates and as always…

Keep on Rockin’!

Chris

Changes To The Website – 4/28/20

Alright, well, after some consideration and thought, we have changed the front page around so when you first come to the Rockin WAVES website, you’ll go directly to the Listen Live page instead of the Blog. You will still be able to access the blog by clicking on the “Rockin WAVES Blog” tab at the top.

We did this so when you come to the website, instead of searching around for the listen live page, it’ll be the first page you come to and you can click play and enjoy the music.

Also, with people working from home or being laid off, we are seeing an increase in listeners which is awesome! We are also in the process of adding a new show to the Rockin WAVES Lineup! More on that later.

Since the last update, we had a couple of people ask about Rockin WAVES Spring Break. What happened to it? Well, back in late February/early March the COVID-19 Pandemic was just beginning to ramp up here in the US. We decided though to go ahead and proceed with original plans to go ahead and do the Rockin WAVES Spring Break. However, halfway through the month of March is when things really started to hit the fan. Shelter in Place orders were put into place, people were not going anywhere (except home) for Spring Break, and the hotel cams that we were checking in on were empty during the day and night. Plus, no one was listening. So, unfortunately, the decision was made that we quietly end Rockin WAVES Spring Break early this year. Which we did.

Some people have now inquired about the status of SOR2020. Right now, as of this blog post, we really don’t know. Our hope is to still do it but we really do not know. The original date for the SOR launch is May 7th. Which is quickly upon us. We were hoping that numbers for COVID-19 would be on the decline by then but it doesn’t even seem that way. Right now, there is a strong possibility that we will be moving the launch date to Memorial Day Weekend. We will let you know within the next week via social media so be on the lookout!

Also, with the COVID-19 Pandemic, the XFL unfortunately declared bankruptcy and ceased operations. With that, XFL Today also ceased production. We would like to thank the hosts of XFL Today for a job well done and sad that the show will no longer be on the air. Also, AFT Buzz has taken a temporary hiatus as well. We would like to thank our affiliate WON Sports Network for providing us with great sports programming!

That about does it for the update. Thanks to everyone who has been listening throughout everything that has been going on! Hopefully everything will return to normal soon!

Keep on Rockin!
Chris

New Decade, New Updates!

I know, I suck at updating often. Anyways, welcome to the new year and the new decade! Some updates to bring you!

We have added a couple of new shows to the lineup since the last update and have moved some shows around on the network. One of the moves is AFT Buzz. Since there is not alot going on in Arena Football right now, we have moved it to Sundays at 1 AM for right now and when the regular Arena Football season starts up again, we will be moving it back to Wednesdays at 4 PM.

Right now, in the Wednesday 4 PM timeslot we have added a new show called XFL Today. Basically, it’s everything XFL. What’s going on, the matchups that are ahead and much more. It’s a great show and we are airing it on Wednesdays at 4 PM and again on Saturdays at 12 PM.

Also, we have discontinued carrying The Doo-Wop Vault due to low listenership. We want to thank Dennis for providing the show each week and wish him luck. In it’s place, we have moved Dan Sweeney’s One Hit Wonders to the timeslot formerly occupied by the Doo-Wop Vault. We now air 2 hours of Dan Sweeney’s show at 7 PM on Sundays.

Well, that about does it for the update. I want to thank everyone who listens to the station and supports us! Enjoy the programming and Keep on Rockin!

New Shows and Schedule Updates!

Hey everyone! What a past couple of months! It’s been busy in the past couple of months which is why there has been no update really to the website.

However, I am pleased to announce a few things that have come to Rockin WAVES that I think you will enjoy!

First, we have partnered up with a brand new radio station called Lime City Radio Network and have basically become like partner stations. We will be promoting them as well as them promoting us so be sure to check them out! They play some of the same music we play!

Next, we have a couple of NEW SHOWS being added to the Rockin WAVES Lineup! We are moving AFT Buzz to Wednesday before The Locked and Loaded Radio Show as we feel it will be a better fit for the show. So be sure to listen in to AFT Buzz on Wednesdays at 4 PM starting November 13th.

Now in the slot that was formerly occupied by AFT Buzz, we are picking up Dan Sweeney’s One Hit Wonders! This show has been syndicated to a lot of radio stations already and Rockin WAVES is now added to the list! We will be airing his show on Tuesdays at 5 PM starting November 12th.

Now immediately following Dan’s show, we are expanding the 60s Superhighway on Tuesday. We will now be airing it for 2 hours on both Monday and Tuesday. Monday’s start time is still the same, but on Tuesday, we are moving it an hour and expanding it to 2 hours so from 6-8 you’ll hear great 60s music starting November 11th.

Finally, on Fridays, immediately before Cranked Up Country, we will be airing another country show that will be counting down the Top 15 songs from Australian country artists! It’s called My Country Australia hosted by Pete Matthewman. We will be airing his show starting on Friday, November 15th at 3 PM!

Well, that about does it for the updates. Be sure to stay tuned for updates about the Holiday of Rockin’ which is right around the corner. Got some cool things in store for the holiday season! As always, thanks for listening and keep on Rockin!

Some near end of Summer updates!

Yeah, it’s time for a little near end of summer update for you here. And, a little something else as well.

First, let’s get the something else out of the way.

Stream Ripping. Alright, let me just say not cool. What is stream ripping you ask? Well, stream ripping is basically streaming another station’s feed onto their station (or recording it for future playback) without the other station’s permission. I’ve had it happen on Rockin WAVES a couple of times and I had to either ban the IP or the user agent. So, here’s the thing. If you want to air any of the shows on Rockin WAVES, you need to contact the DJ’s in question. Not just go willy-nilly and record it without our knowledge. That’s just not cool and it makes you look like a douche in the end.

Alright, with that out of the way, ONTO THE UPDATES!

For those who are wondering what happened to Ringside Wrestling and the Tommy B Show, Tommy B has decided to end his shows and go out on his own. We respect his decision and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and we thank him for the awesome shows he has done on Rockin WAVES.

Also, 80s Night with Mike Ward is MOVING to a different time and day. As of this post, a time and day hasn’t been decided but we will let you know ASAP.

Finally, September is upon us, and with September coming, that also means the Summer of Rockin’ is about to come to an end. We will be giving the Summer of Rockin’ 2019 a fun farewell with a special live broadcast on Sunday, September 1st beginning at 8 PM (hopefully). That also means a couple of minor changes this week on Rockin WAVES.

We will be pre-empting the 2nd hour of the Doo-Wop Vault and part of the AT40 Time Machine. For this week (September 1st), the AT40 Time Machine will air in it’s entirety beginning at 10 PM this Sunday (one hour later), then at 1:30 AM, we will air the 2nd hour of the Doo-Wop Vault.

We want to thank everyone for their great support this summer on the Summer of Rockin’ 2019. It’s a summer that will definitely not be forgotten!

Anyways, that does it for the update. Thanks for listening and as always, keep on rockin!

-Chris

Where does the 11294 come from?

Alright, out of all the questions I get about Rockin WAVES, the #1 question I get asked most often is “What does the 11294 mean?”

Alot of times, I tell people to just guess. And the responses I get are pretty amusing at times. Some people think it’s my birthdate (11-2-94) which that ain’t it. (Mine is about 5 years and a few months earlier). One person thought that it was a zip code for something, which that isn’t it either. One person even thought I just closed my eyes and typed 5 random numbers on a keyboard which if I did it we would’ve been called “Rockin WAVES 36548”

The origin of 11294 goes back a long ways to our beginning.

Back when I launched Rockin WAVES, we were streaming on a site called UBroadcast which was a audio streaming service where independent broadcasters could have their own online radio station. Unfortunately, you had to not only download streaming software from their site (it was a custom encoder program that could only be used for Ubroadcast) but you also had to download a special player just to listen to the stations on there. Sadly, the site didn’t work and today in 2019, the site is no longer online. It closed I want to say about 4 years ago but I could be wrong.

Anyway, on with the story. Each station on Ubroadcast gets a station number. The station number is what you would type into the Ubroadcast player to find the station. The station number we had was “11294”. We started using that in some of our branding to help people find the station and when we moved from Ubroadcast to BlogTV, we decided to keep 11294 in the station name.

So there you go, that’s the story of how over the years, 11294 has remained significant with Rockin WAVES and how even to this day, we still pay homage to the site that allowed me to start living a dream by saying “Rockin WAVES 11294”.

Later on, I’ll give a little history on some of the sites we have used throughout the years. They have been numerous.

Summer of Rockin 2019!

SOR 19 is underway! And we have some great programming in store! Be sure to check the schedule page for all the latest updates on shows and whatnot and we have a few specials also in store for the summer!

We have a NEW SHOW that’s airing on Rockin WAVES. It’s called A.F.T. Buzz. Its 1 hour of Arena Football Talk that is distributed by our friends at 920 W.O.N. The Apple. It’s a very interesting and informative show that I think you will enjoy! Give it a listen on Tuesdays at 6 PM right before the Tommy B. Show.

Also, this August marks 50 years since the Woodstock Music Festival. And we have a couple of special things in store for that weekend. It’s too early to unveil them now as it is still in the planning stages but I think you will enjoy what we have in store if the plans come to be. Just stay tuned to here and on our Facebook page for more information!

Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has listened to Rockin WAVES. It truly means a lot and the support we get from you guys on our Facebook posts and those of you who send me an email telling me that all of us are doing a great job, makes all the hard work worthwhile. I can promise you that we will continue working hard for you guys to make this station your favorite station for years to come!

Well, that about does it for the update. Time to work on some graphics for SOR. Thanks for reading and as always, keep on Rockin!

Rockin WAVES Update (FINALLY!) – April 2019

WOW! Well, alot has happened in 4 months! Let’s get to it!

FIRST OFF, the DJ Bio page is up and available for viewing! So if you want to find out more about some of the DJ’s you are hearing on Rockin WAVES, there you go.

We have also added some new shows since the last update!

We added this show I believe back in October and until now, I noticed we never gave it a proper welcome to Rockin WAVES, so I would like to rectify that by welcoming One Nostalgic Weekend to the Rockin WAVES lineup! You can hear them every Saturday at 4 PM.

Also, back last year, we for a short time, had a show called Prime Time With The Iceman. Well, we have since stopped carrying it but The Iceman is still heard on Rockin WAVES! You can hear The Iceman’s 150 Show! Hearing great songs from the 70s and 80s every Wednesday night at 9 PM immediately following The Charles Richardson Show.

ALSO!

We have added another show to Saturdays on Rockin WAVES. Every Saturday at 1:30 PM, you can hear The Retro 80s Weekend With Dean!

Also, coming soon, probably either around June or August, we are going to be revamping the schedule again. There will be some shows that will be removed and some that will be changed around. Sort of like what happened last year at the fall schedule unveiling. There will be more info on that as we get closer.

As always, Keep on Rockin!

Website Update

Well, we are well into the holiday season and with that we have made some updates to the website both cosmetically and internally.

First off, on the non-seeing side, we updated the editor and the layout to make everything more accessible and user friendly.

That’s about it on the non-seeing side.

Other changes we made was the addition of DJ Bios! That’s right! Now when you click the DJ Bios tab, it’ll take you to a page that features pictures of all of us and all you have to do it click on a DJ and it’ll take you to their bio! The DJ Bio page is currently being built so not all the DJ’s are on there yet but eventually, we will try and have all the DJ’s on there.

Also, if you have been listening for a long time, back after BlogTV shutdown, we moved to Ustream. We even had a page here on the website where you just had to click and you were tuned in. Well, recently, Ustream changed to IBM Cloud Video and you now have to pay a ridiculous amount to stream on there. Because of that, we deleted our account and therefore, deleted the site page that went with it. But, shouldn’t be too much of a change because you guys haven’t seen the page in about 3 years lol.

In addition to all this, we have updated the schedule, links page and we are also looking at more ways to make the website look better and work better for you! There is still a lot of work left to do so keep checking back for more!

Now, in addition to the website, the station has really been doing fantastic on the listening side of things! We have had ALOT of listeners tuned in recently and we appreciate everyone that has listened into the Holiday of Rockin! The holiday music will continue until December 26th when we will sign off for a couple of hours for maintenance and then will sign back on within a couple of hours.

Coming up also is the New Year’s Eve All Stereo Marathon! We are really excited about it and we have a lot of great programming coming up!

Also, want to take this time to welcome DJ Sizzlin’ Sarah to the Rockin WAVES Team! She is, like a lot of our air staff, an ABS Graduate! Be sure to check her out on Saturday nights at 10 PM Eastern!

Well, that about does it for this update, in case I don’t make another post before then, I want to take this time to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at Rockin WAVES 11294!

Keep on Rockin!
– Chris

The Holiday of Rockin’ 2018

It’s the biggest time of year for Rockin WAVES and the holidays are officially here! All the DJ’s here at Rockin WAVES usually have the most fun during the holidays and it really comes out during the shows! To help celebrate the holiday season, we are going to be airing some classic holiday specials on the iVlog channel. Call it a Rockin WAVES Christmas Theatre if you will. Below are the dates when you can catch the Christmas specials and what we will be showing. Each week it will be an hour long so be sure to tune in! The start time is 8 PM and here is what we will be showing!

December 4th: WKRP in Cincinnati (Christmas Episode), A Garfield Christmas
December 11th: WKRP in Cincinnati (Christmas Episode), A Charlie Brown Christmas
December 18th: Mickey’s Christmas Carol

All those shows (with the exception of WKRP In Cincinnati) I taped myself back in the 90s so it will be a real treat to go back in time to the 90s and relive some of the classic shows and commercials with it!

Also, we have changed formats to Holiday on the Shoutcast which means if you are listening to us on Winamp or other devices, you may need to redownload the links to the player info on our listen live page. If the info you previously downloaded still works, then your good to go!

Thank you very much for listening in! We are looking forward to Christmas this year and we hope you are too! More to come during the holiday season with special shows and everything else! In the meantime, Keep on Rockin!

Chris
